Top 10 Sport Quotes

Well, there's no basketball, no hockey, no football, no Tiger Woods and barely any sports on to watch (and baseball doesn't cout) so I officially call these the dogg days until sports come back. So to pass time I looked up some sports quotes, and here are 10 that I really like:

1 - "If practice makes perfect, and no one is perfect, why practice?" - Derek P.
2 - "At one point in your life you either have the thing you want or the reasons why you don't" - Andy Roddick
3 - "Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back... play for her." - Mia Hamm
4 - "Winners don't wait for chances, they take them" - Unknown
5 - "Winning means you're willing to go longer, work harder, and give more than anyone else." - Vince Lombardi
6 - "Pain is only temporary but victory is forever." - Unknown
7 - "Don't practice until you get it right. Practice until you can't get it wrong." - Unknown
8 - "Love is playing every game as if it's your last." Michael Jordan
9 - "People don't play sports because its fun. Ask any athlete, most of them hate it, but they couldn't imagine their life with out it. Its part of them, the love/hate relationship. Its what they live for. They live for the practices, parties, cheers, long bus rides, invitationals, countless pairs of different types of shoes, water, Gatorade, & coaches you hate but appreciate. They live for the way it feels when they beat the other team, and knowing those two extra sprints they ran in practice were worth it. They live for the way they become a family with their team, they live for the countless songs they sing in their head while training all those hours. They live for the competition, they live for the friends, the practices, the memories, the pain, its who they are. It's who we are" - Unknown
10 - "Wen you put on that jersey, the name on the front is more important then the name on the back." - Miracle on Ice

US Open - No TIger, No Buzz

To follow up on the quick blog I wrote about the impact of Tiger not participating in the US Open, the article below from Yahoo actually emphasizes that even further. The reality is that it is now Tuesday o nthe week of the US Open, and there has been no Buzz about the tournament, very little talk of the field and very little media coverage. This is obviously not good for golf, and golf really need Tiger to come back.

Mavs Win NBA Title! Dirk MVP! Heat no Longer Feared

As the last seconds were winding down in game 6 of the NBA finals, and as the Heat started to give up on the game with about a minute left, Dirk Nowitzki realized what the he had just accomplished – Finally winning the NBA title! For Dirk who is an ultimate team player, winning the title was all that mattered, the fact that he won the Final’s MVP was just an added bonus. For the Mavs this was an accomplishment that they had been waiting on for a long time. From “no-D Dallas” to the run and gun softies to now being tough, defensive minded and best of all real Champions. A great accomplishment for the organization and a great honor for NBA fans to have a team with so much class hold the NBA Championship.

What this championship run by Dallas showed us is that titles aren’t won by individuals, but by a committee of players willing to do whatever it takes to make it work. Beating teams with superstars after superstars, and finally beating the Heat who had stacked up three of the NBA elites, proves that the timeless art of team work defeats all individual efforts.

For the Heat, well it does not get any easier. Now that the Mavs beat them, all the teams will be looking to do the same next year. Teams will no longer be intimidated by the big three and others such as the Bulls, and the Magic will just keep getting better in the East. The road for Lebron to win a championship just got harder.

Here is a quick recap of the game:
·        Mavs were up big early, but the Heat made several big runs to take the lead before the half.
·        Mavs fought back in the second to take several big leads but the Heat fought their way back each time.
·        Mavs finally made a big run in the fourth to seal the deal
·        Nowitzki struggled throughout the first three quarters but came up big in the fourth hitting key shots
·        Lebron, Wade and Bosh all struggle in the fourth, closing out their sub-par performances for the game
·        Jason Terry and Jose Barrea were magnificent throughout the whole game including  the fourth quarter where they both hit several key shots

The NBA Title for 2011 belongs to the Mavs!

Quote of the Week - On Lebron James - Best Quote so Far

So my buddy Razi texted me the best quote i have heard in a long time. I am not sure if it's original of if he got it from somewhere, but it is definately worth sharing with the world. Here it is:

"If you give Lebron a dollar, he will always give you back 75 cents, he doesn't give you the fourth quarter"

Now that was a great quote!

And then there was another outstanding NBA Finals game last night. The first four 2011 NBA Finals games have had allot of excitement, and game 5 was not any different than the other. Another hard fought game, with both teams exchanging blows, the defence stepping it up at the right time and big shots from players known for making key shots. At the end of it, the Mav came up with the win and took a 3-2 series lead. What I've noticed in these series is that an overall team make up beat three stars playing on the same team. Here is a quick recap of the game:
  • Mavs started off strong but gave up the lead in the third quarter. They eventually came back in the fourth to win the game again.
  • Both Team brought their best offensive performances of the 2011 NBA Finals
  • Lebron James ended with a triple double but he only had 2 points in the fourth
  • Dirk Nowitzki had another big game and another clutch fourth quarter performance
  • Dwayne wade carried the load in the fourth quarter for the heat again
  • Chris Bosh had a good game
  • Barrea and Terry both hit key shots down the stretch to seal the deal for the Mavs

Great Game - Mavs Fight Back to Tie Series at 2-2; Lebron a No Show

Last night was perhaps one of the best NBA finals game since the Michael Jordan era when every team fought for a win. The Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat were locked into an epic battle, with bodies flying all over the court, players fighting for every loose ball and playing the best defence I have seen in an NBA finals in a very long time.

With Dallas winning the game and the series now tied at 2-2, it is anybody's finals and I can really see these series going to game 7. This is perhaps the best NBA finals in year, with every game so far being as close as it can.

Here is a quick recap of the game:
  • Dirk Nowitzki played with a 102 fever in the Dallas win.
  • Dallas finally got some good performances from Terry, Chandler and Barrea
  • Dallas was down 9 points in the fourth and came back to win with great defence holding Miami to zero points over a 5 minute span
  • Wade and Bosh both had great games
  • Lebron failed to show up again in a big game as he had his worst performance in the playoffs and was non-existant in the fourth
  • Wade missed a free-throw that could have tied the game down in the last minute of the game
With the ever critical game 5 being played in Dallas, I am looking forward to seeing how both teams come out. Look out for another great game!
